Greg Glassman, the Founder of CrossFit wrote about The ‘Theoretical Hierarchy of Development for an Athlete’ in the CrossFit Journal Article, What is Fitness. He explains the Hierarchy…”The logical flow is from molecular foundations, cardiovascular sufficiency, body control, external object control, and ultimately mastery and application.” -G.Glassman
This hierarchy applies across all fitness domains. Whether you’re an endurance athlete, an aesthetic athlete, professional athlete or a weekend warrior, it applies for everyone. There are five tiers to this hierarchy. It begins with 1) Nutrition, 2) Metabolic Conditioning, 3) Gymnastics, 4) Weightlifting, and 5) Sport. If you have a deficiency at any level of “the pyramid” the components above will all suffer. Having a great understanding of nutrition is the first step in developing a higher level of fitness, whether your goals are purely aesthetics, weightlifting or improving performance.
The fuel put into your body will affect your performance outcome in the gym, field, or office. After all, your workout only takes an hour per day. That leaves 23 hours to optimize or diminish the effect of your training efforts through your diet.
Nutrient intake, like the delivery of a good joke, must be timed just right. This is most important as it relates to your exercise habits. If your goal is to optimize your performance during and your recovery after your workout then you need to pay attention to what and when you consume your daily nutrients.
Whether you’re goal is to perform better, prepare for a fitness competition or simply get leaner to some degree. I have the knowledge and experience to put together a customized, yet comprehensive, guide to stripping down your fat to get your physique ready for performance, the stage, hitting the beach, or walking down the aisle. Diets always work best in conjunction with regular exercise.
Make no mistake, you can never out-exercise a bad diet. It’s by no means coincidence that the first three letters of the word “diet” indicate just how miserable the process can be. Constantly being hungry, having to pass on satisfying carbs in favor of vegetables, eating smaller portions of bland-tasting foods. Yet getting into the best shape of your life and maintaining it doesn’t have to mean total self-sacrifice for the sake of seeing your abs. Tailoring the right nutrition plan, I will have you meet your fitness goals in as little as 12 weeks through small changes in your diet based off of your current body composition, daily activity and ending goals.

Some basic ground rules before you think I am the solution to all your problems. The effectiveness of any exercise or nutritional plan is more often than not dictated by the person undertaking it and both their perseverance and willingness to change. You must change your lifestyle, habits, addictions and approach to life if this is to work. Your self motivation and attitude will determine your direction. You cannot out-exercise a bad diet. Rest assured I can and will direct you toward a safe yet effective path in achieving optimal health and fitness.
